The photo is of W.R.W. Cobb, Jr. (“Will”), and his wife, Sarah Jane (“Jane”) Glass Cobb. W.R.W. stands for Williamson Robert Winfield Cobb. He was named after his father’s first cousin, who was a six term U.S. Congressman out of Jackson County. Other members of the early Cobb family served as County Commissioners, Constables, Justices of the Peace, etc.

They were amongst the earliest settlers of Woodville, Owens Cross Roads, Gurley, Paint Rock, Big Cove, and surrounding areas.

Died June 19, 1913, buried in Gurley Cemetery
Served as a Private in Confederate Army, Russell’s AL 4th Cavalry
Postmaster of Gurley, 1889-1894 and 1899-1901
Prominent Gurley businessman
His wife Jane Glass was born January 8, 1837.
