Scan Incoming and Outgoing Data using VISTA Firewall

Vista offers true bi-directional firewall security.

To set the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security you can use the search from the Start menu.

Workflow:

1) Click Start

2) Type in the Search field firewall and press Enter to launch the search

3) The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window will display in a MMC window.
(MMC stands for Microsoft Management Console)
The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security allows you to setup the Inbound and Outbound rules for selected programs.

The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security console displays 3 panels:

• In the Left panel Select Inbound Rules
• The Center panel shows an overview of the settings
• In the Right panel select New Rules
  The right panel is titled the Action panel
• Select the Rule Type
  Program
  Port
  Predefined
  Custom
• Select the program in question
• Select the Action to take for the program in question
  You can either block the connection, allow it, or only allow it if it secure.
• Select Domain, Private, or public to apply as Profile
• Add the optional name and description
  (it helps to have names and descriptions if you are setting multiple Rules)
