The imprisonment approach is fine and helps tremendously, but the huge disadvantage is that is takes effect after the crime has been done. Prevention is better than reaction, surviving victims and their families can confirm that. We must act if we do not want to be guilty by association.

Facts about US violent crimes

Never compare guns with anything else simply because nothing else, beside guns, is made solely to kill

Americans murder each other with guns at a rate 19 times
higher than any of the 25 richest nations surveyed.

We can give numbers and statistics all day long.
Statistics from the The National Center for Victims of Crime
These statistics help us a lot, now the goal is not to count but to act with morality.
One person hurt: is one too many. That's all.
We have to achieve perfection in innocent people safety, and the first step is effective prevention with morality.

"Despite the tragic lessons we have learned, it is still far too easy for a convicted felon to buy firearms at a gun show.  I believe law-abiding citizens have the right to own guns, and I have steadfastly fought for those rights for many years. But with rights come responsibilities." Senator John McCain (Tuesday, May 15, 2001)

"Reaching accord on how to reduce gun crimes has divided Congress for far too long, unfortunately, at the expense of so many good citizens who have found themselves at the wrong end of a gun," Senator Joe Lieberman (Tuesday, May 15, 2001)

To get something done, we must all use morality and prevention. Too many issues are controlled by bribery, corruption, misconduct, and economic interests.

The inmate population in state, federal prisons, and local jails in the USA is projected at 2 million by the end of 2001. In 1990 the inmate population was 1,148,702.
One more reason to act fast, to be involved in your local community, and to contact your legislators to determine local and national preventive policies.

Morality is a common policy that we can use. But morality requires to apply successfully some kind of basic regulations. If one refuses regulations on an issue, he has to accept no regulation on an other issue.

Hey Americans !
Is this the kind of questions you should ask when looking for a school ?

Im considering a move to ... and have a few concerns. Does anyone know about the crime rate in ...? Would you say ... is a nice community to raise kids? There are an awful lot of prisons in the area (off 175) has that ever been a concern for anyone? How would you rate the schools? Thanks for any input on these questions.
"I can tell you it was entirely too easy to purchase the guns. And I honestly believe something should be done...If I had to fill out paperwork with a private dealer I would not have done it,..." says Robyn Anderson, who bought guns for her friends Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.
The two then killed 13 people plus themselves at Columbine High School.
She says a state law requiring background checks at gun shows would have stopped her from buying three guns used by the Columbine killers.  In Colorado, legislators refused to close the loophole and voted down virtually every other gun control measure introduced since the Columbine massacre.
Help and support Law enforcement officers:
Law enforcement officers throughout the country have been slain in the line of duty, too many have been killed in duty-related accidents, and way too many officers have been assaultedOccupational homicide

"We shall make no progress in removing this national menace until this basic fact as to the ineffectiveness of arming citizens is well and thoroughly understood by the people who foolishly buy pistols and arm themselves."
Magistrate William McAdoo
