We must not be inflexible and regulate to the point of interdiction so banning is out of the question. We must not be free to the point of refusing rules of conduct and preventive measures. In most countries of the FREE industrialized world, gun permits are granted only to those with a clean social record, or gun owners must be licensed and/or trained, approved medical certificates, and / or members of shooting clubs. The United States suffers from gun violence that rivals the very worst in poorer nations.

When the insane takes control... evil wins.
After the greatest technological achievement, it is now time for US to accomplish its greatest social triumph. Now the question is for the US to become a leader in humanitarian and social principles. Americans deserve to be as safe as any citizen from any other industrialized nations. Second Amendment is not an obstacle to gun legislation.
Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger said in 1991:
The Second Amendment has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I
repeat the word 'fraud,' on the American public by special interest groups that I have
ever seen in my lifetime
In 2000, a group of 50 prominent academics signed an open letter to Charlton Heston, then president of the NRA, to correct his misstatements about the Second Amendment.
LCAV: "However, even though people may believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to own guns, federal courts have almost unanimously held that the amendment does not ensure any such individual right. Instead, the courts have consistently reaffirmed an interpretation that the amendment's purpose was to protect the power of states to create militias armed with privately owned guns."
And the long sad story continues...

In 2002 a wave of serious gun crimes has European countries considering additional measures to control weapons and reduce violence. Today's current facts:

| Switzerland | In 1993 - 96 firearm homicides rate 1.4 per 100,000 population. If you believe the associations, special and financial lobbyists statement that "Most homes in Switzerland are armed with machine guns. Switzerlands firearm homicide rate ranks many times lower than that of the United States." Think again! Gun lobbyists and associations with political agendas, special and financial interests are not telling you the complete truth about Switzerland. Being European and webmaster of this site, I have experience with the particular Swiss approach: The "armed" Swiss are very well trained, disciplined, and controlled. They are trained under strict military-like standards, not as the chaos found in US. Furthermore, the Swiss are very selective and screen their streets and highways on a daily basis. They can "spot-check" any "suspect" person or vehicle at any time. They have a very well hidden system of segregation using social classes and financial status as factors for discrimination. In doing this, they keep certain "unwanted" people out of the country and control guns from being in the wrong hands. It is a wealthy nation that wants to be protected from the poor, the uneducated, and the violence. Many Swiss feel they are superior to the rest of the world, and they want to keep the rest of the world out of Switzerland. The Swiss approach is completely unfair and unacceptable compared to a common sense gun policy. Do not compare Switzerland and USA - USA is supposed to be a nation of equality. The Swiss attitude is unconceivable with the American ideology - Americans deserve way better. (September 27 in ZUG, Switzerland a gunman dressed as a police officer went on a rampage in the state parliament killing at least 14 people.) |
